Today I was watching a humbling story that The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (my church) published on You tube. It is about a couple who were in a plane crash and they both were burned, but the wife was very severely burned and in a coma for 3 months. Stories like this make me so humbled and they remind me that life can change in an instant. Things happen to all people. This is the agreement that we made with Heavenly Father before we came to earth. We agreed to go through life's sufferings, but we also knew that we would be blessed no matter what. Life is not perfect and we knew this before. This woman has to live each day with severe burns. Here face is not the same as it used to be. She says, "I am not my body". How true this statement is. We are not our bodies. What makes us who we are is not the way we look, dress, how much money we have, and so on, but the way we feel about ourselves. I know if we looked at ourselves the way Heavenly Father sees us we would realize who we really are. We are not just a body we are more than that. We are mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons. She said that beauty is not everything. She said that she views her life as something more. Life is a privilege to have. We take it for granted. I know I do sometimes and I often times neglect to realize that what I have right now is amazing. When Brian goes away for a month or so. I realize how much I love him and need him. I just can't imagine my life without him. When the kids go off to school and I forgot to tell them I love them or I have been grumpy and getting on to then all morning. I don't realize how important it is until they have left and pray that I will see them when they get off the bus and tell them I love them or that I am sorry. I allow the least important things become important and the really important things become the least. Life is not all about beauty and things. It's about fulfilling our callings to be better. Sometimes life throws us curve balls and we either need to accept and be humbled or feel sorry for what we are suffering about. I hope and pray that I can be strong through life's trials. Our family has had trials, but nothing permanent that we have to look at and be reminded of everyday. Our trials come and go, but for those who suffer daily I admire their faith. When I see people who have had sever burns on their face or something else that is different, it makes my heart ache, but maybe they have learned who they really are and they don't need my sympathy, they just need my acceptance.
Before I had seen this video, Katrina was making faces the other day and saying, Mom what if I looked like this, or what if I looked like this. I do that sometimes, but never really thought about it until my daughter was doing the same thing. Of all the faces she was making, I said, if you looked like that then it's because Heavenly Father made you that way and to him you will always be beautiful. I also said that she would still be beautiful to us. I just want my kids to accept and love everyone who may look different. I just need to continue to teach them to look through Heavenly Father's eyes and not the world's.
Jefferey R. Holland says: " When suffering we may in fact be nearer to God than we have ever been in our entire lives. That knowledge can turn every such situation into a would be temple. Regarding our earthly journey the Lord has promised , '"I will go before your face, I will be on your right hand and on your left, my spirit shall be in your hearts and mine angels round about you to var you up."' That is an everlasting declaration of God's love and care for us, including and perhaps especially in times of trouble".
Our trials do become blessings when we have faith in Jesus Christ.

Our kitty Neela races me to the bedroom to get her belly rubbed. This a routine thing for her and she will softly make a noise until she gets her belly rubbed. It's quite funny.

I watched that video as well and what an example she is to us. It was so touching. I loved reading your post. It is so true that we are beautiful in Heavenly Father's eyes no matter what we look like. If we could only see ourselves and others as he does it would be so much better. We are our own worst critics. Thanks! I needed this. :)
I liked reading this!! And it is so true, we need to stop and think about all that we and what others are blessed with and stop looking at how the world would look at us. Thanks for posting that!
